The Perfect Plus Size Tunic Dress For A Summer To Autumn Transition

What Plus Size Tunic Dress to Wear?

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I think the weather likes to play games with me. For example, we will have a few warm days in April or May and I’ll decide to get my summer wardrobe out and put my winter one away. The following day we’ll be back to a month of rain and wind, and vice versa.

Autumn Transition

Come September I am dying to get my cosy clothes out of hibernation and get wrapped up ready for winter, but I know that what I put on at 7am will have me melting in a form of heatstroke come 3pm. It’s like a game of chess with weather and clothing battling against each other.

That’s why I am all about the tunic dress. Perfect for the slightly warmer days that surprise us in September, the days where you can still go out in sandals and sunglasses, but not in strappy vests and shorts. Warm but not hot.

Its also perfect for those days that the wind is a little bit quicker than we’re used to, the rain clouds can’t make up their minds, but the thought of a coat brings us out in a, rushing around, boiling hot sweat.

The Perfect Tunic Dress

This tunic dress is perfect for all of these occasions. I’d go as far as to say, apart from during high summer, it’s a year round staple. Legs out in the warmer months, or teamed with leggings, slim trousers or even thick, wooly tights and boots during the colder months. It can be paired with a light denim jacket, long necklace and flats for a casual look, or add a pair of black well fitting leggings, a large costume jewellery ring and some heels and you’re good to go out for the evening.

The soft V neck and navy blue colour make it flattering for all skin tones and shapes (the dress is available up to size 22), and the stretchy fabric means it will be comfortable no matter what you are doing, in whatever weather the day decides to throw at you!

For a daytime look, keep it simple, team with your favourite jeans or leggings, some great boots; add a chunky beaded necklace & an oversized shoulder bag and you’re good to go.
For work, just add opaque tights and some patent court shoes.  For a splash of colour, style with a bright scarf – left loose or tied in a quirky pussy bow depending on your style.  Choose a bold Aztec style print to tie in with one of this season’s big catwalk trends and you’ve got instant office-chic.

When you’re looking for more glamour, the tunic’s gorgeous chocolate brown shade lends itself beautifully as a blank canvas to accessorise with this season’s Afrocentric trends.  Think chunky ethnic style jewellery, earth tones, wooden bangles, and of course, don’t be afraid to throw a splash of animal print into the mix.  Fashion’s long standing love affair with playful prints shows no sign of ending any time soon, so why not invest in some leopard print pumps or heels to really set off the look.  Add a coordinating clutch to stash the essentials and get ready to party!
This great little dress will soon become one of your wardrobe staples – have fun experimenting with it!

This designer tunic is available at Vida Moda now in 3 sizes catering for size 16 to 22.

Size 20 Tunic by Anathea at Vida Moda 2012

Why the tunic dress is your wardrobe staple

The tunic dress, popularised in the 1960′s got a make-over for the new millennium. Now it’s a staple of many women’s wardrobes of all sizes and generations.

Delicious day wear

Tunic dresses are perfect for flattering figures and showing off our best assets.

If you have killer toned calves, then find a pair of leggings, footless tights or even skinny leg cut jeans to team up with the dress for day wear. For those lucky enough to be of ample bosom, choose a v-neck or wide scoop neck with close fitting sleeves. Belts would suit tall, pear shaped figures. Fasten it fairly loose, hanging across one side. This khaki number has a small cowl neck and looks perfect with chunky boots plus would suit lots of different heights and shaped figures.

Going out glam

Convert any tunic dress to evening wear with a stylish pair of heels and semi-opaque tights for that night on the town. Or for tunic style tops, swap jeans for shiny black trousers, go boot cut for a more flattering shape.

Accessories make any tunic dress look dazzle, especially if you match your pieces. A pair of simple, elegant but long drop earrings teamed up with a pendant necklace will finish off any look. Or find a pair of nude patent heels and matching clutch for a look that is bang on trend.
